Microsoft Office 2024 will be supported and receive security updates for five years from the release date, expected to be “this year,” along with a new LTSC version of Windows 11. The company also commits to releasing at least one other standalone version of Office in the future. If you’ve purchased Office 2021 and are still satisfied with it, you’ll continue to receive support (including security updates) until October 2026. Support for Office 2019 ended in October 2023.

Highlights of the Office 2024 release include “new meeting creation options and improved search in Outlook, dozens of new Excel features and functions including Dynamic Arrays and Array formulas; and improved performance, security, and ease of use,” according to Microsoft. One notable missing feature will be Microsoft Publisher, which will be discontinued in October 2026.

Like other standalone Office editions, the feature set of Office 2024 will be frozen over time without continuous changes as in Microsoft 365 versions of similar apps. While perpetual licensed versions of Office can interact with Microsoft services like OneDrive, the company notes that other features like the AI assistant Copilot won’t be available in Office 2024 as it’s a “disconnected product.” It also lacks real-time collaboration features available in Microsoft 365.

2. Create a configuration.xml file with the content below

3. Open cmd with admin rights, point to the officedeploymenttool_xxxxx-xxxxx folder and run the following command to install office 2024 LTSC

setup.exe /configure configuration.xml
