What is new in Corona Renderer 5 for 3ds Max

Some of the highlights:

  • 2.5D displacement: saves significant memory and reduces parsing times
  • Caustics improvements: saves significant memory and renders faster, plus other improvements
  • Overall memory, parsing time, and render time savings for all scenes (no changes required!)
  • New hair and skin materials added to the Material Library
  • Hair rendering (Max native, Ornatrix, or Hair Farm) needs less memory
  • Various quality of life improvements, UI tweaks, and bug fixes!

Corona Renderer 5 for 3ds Max (Hotfix 2) released

This release fixes the following issue:

  • Using the CoronaProxy pick from scene and selecting an object caused 3ds Max to crash

Requirements

  • Corona Renderer is entirely CPU based (with optional GPU denoising; requires a compatible NVIDIA GPU)
  • Offers unbiased and biased rendering
  • Commercially available plugin works with 3ds Max and Cinema 4D
  • ARCHICAD, Blender, and Standalone versions are in development or available as free alpha versions

Hardware Requirements

  • For Corona Renderer 2 and newer, you will need a CPU that supports the SSE4.1 instruction set (any processor from within the last 10 years). Here is a list of compatible CPUs.
  • To use our optional Fast Preview Denoiser (NVIDIA OptiX), you need an NVIDIA GPU with Maxwell or newer architecture and the newest GPU driver. Not all mobile GPUs are supported.
    Note: this  denoiser type is optional, and Corona Renderer will work fine even if it’s not installed (for example if you are using an AMD or integrated GPU). We also offer a High Quality denoiser, which utilizes purely the CPU, and this denoiser can be used on any computer which can run Corona Renderer.
  • There are no further specific hardware requirements.

Software Requirements

  • Autodesk 3ds Max x64 version 2013-2021Note: Corona Renderer officially supports 3ds Max 2018-2021.
    Corona Renderer will also install and run under 3ds Max 2013-2017
    and should work as expected; however, support for these versions
    is unofficial as we cannot test Corona Renderer under versions
    prior to 3ds Max 2018, due to Autodesk licensing restrictions.

    • To ensure smooth operation and best performance of our Fast Preview Denoiser (NVIDIA OptiX), please make sure you are using the newest driver available for your graphics card. The drivers can be downloaded from nvidia.com
