FEFLOW 11

Simulate a multitude of groundwater processes involving flow, contaminants, groundwater age and heat transport under fully or variably saturated conditions.

FEFLOW enables users to:

  • Analyse interactions below the land surface by including underground structures, tunnels and other types of excavation
  • Predict potential water quality issues in groundwater and provide remediation strategies
  • Model geothermal installations at any scale and depth
  • Investigate groundwater-surface water interaction by coupling FEFLOW to other MIKE surface water models
  • Estimate ground subsidence and predict pumping rates and stability issues in geotechnical and mining projects

FEFLOW 11 (part of the MIKE 2026 suite) is a major release that introduces a new Structural Model Editor, advanced 3D meshing workflows, enhanced geothermal system modeling, and deeper Python integration. It focuses on usability, geological modeling, and performance improvements for groundwater and subsurface simulation.

🔑 Key New Features in FEFLOW 11

1. Geological Modeling & Structural Model Editor

  • Build geological models directly inside FEFLOW without third‑party tools.
  • Compile borehole data, fault networks, stratigraphic sequences into a Supermesh domain ready for discretization.
  • Interactive workflows for fuse/delete and split‑layer operations.
  • Direct visual feedback in the 3D Supermesh view.

2. 3D Meshing & Geometry Tools

  • New layered‑mesh generator powered by Geode‑Solutions for continuous layered geometries.
  • Supermesh preprocessing panel with geometric tools to:
    • Reset topology
    • Compute intersections
    • Remove outer components or small artifacts
    • Improve quality of imported 3D datasets

3. Well & Geothermal Systems

  • Well Manager: new workflow for creating and assigning well groups interactively.
  • Geothermal Open‑Loop System Editor: specialized tools for geothermal modeling.
  • Enhanced geothermal reporting with dedicated charts.

4. Visualization & Usability

  • Improved cross‑sectional views for clearer interpretation.
  • Faster curve generation in both pre‑ and post‑calculation stages.
  • Better engine performance for large models.

5. Python Integration

  • Expanded FEFLOW Programming Interface with Python scripting panel.
  • New Python Views for interactive automation.
  • Access to geometric tools and interpolators via Python for custom workflows.

6. System & Licensing

  • Supported OS: Windows 10 Pro (22H2), Windows 11 Pro (23H2 & 24H2), Windows Server 2022 (21H2), Ubuntu 22.04 & 24.04 LTS.
  • Requires 16 GB RAM minimum, OpenGL ≥ 3.0 recommended.
